    " I have a deep appreciation and gratitude for The Puppy Rescue Mission because they were the organization that worked with me to bring back a puppy that I fell in love with in Afghanistan. This organization helps anyone who bonds with an animal bring them back from overseas. 

     I was deployed to Afghanistan at the time and worked on an Afghan Army compound five days a week. This meant we needed to drive there and back, five days a week, consistently putting ourselves in danger of being targets. While I was there a couple convoys had been hit by vehicle borne improvised explosive devices and had lost lives. We were constantly being told before hitting the road to be on the lookout for a specific vehicle. Although this may have been a deterrent to some to leave the compound, I was excited to get to the place of work because I had made friends with many of the dogs there and had saved food from the chow hall for them that I needed to deliver. The dogs in Afghanistan are looked at as dirty animals and are abused and used for fighting mostly. So on the compound where we worked it was not uncommon to see this activity. One poor dog was called Road Rash because it had been tied to a truck and drug down the road. Its face was disfigured yet it still survived. 

     Animals provide such an amazing loving energy, and the dogs there helped me cope with the craziness that went on there day to day. There were many that I couldn't save because I didn't know about PRM, but when I met Munkie, the last surviving pup from a litter, I heard of their organization and was able through the massive help of PRM, help of my interpreter, and friendly security guards to get her and later her mom into a taxi so they could make their way to the states for safety. Munkie, my pup, saved my sanity and I would have felt horrible if I had to leave her there for a fate unknown. I am so thankful to PRM and know first hand how important their mission is to assist troops in bringing home the animals that help them in country."
